When planning inclusive restroom spaces, understanding the difference between a universal changing table and an adult changing table is key. Sova’s Ascent® and Attend™ are designed to support dignified care, but they meet different functional and budget needs.
What’s the Difference Between Ascent and Attend Changing Tables?
Both the Attend and Ascent are designed to support dignified care for adults with disabilities, while meeting the practical demands of public facilities. Each features a large, vacuum-formed ABS plastic changing surface that’s durable, easy to clean, and built for repeated use and thoughtful, wall-mounted designs for straightforward installation.
Both tables deliver reliable performance—while differing in how they support caregivers during transfers.

Ascent: A Universal Changing Table
The Ascent is a universal changing table because it features electronic height actuation. With the push of a button, caregivers can raise or lower the table to align with a wheelchair, allowing for easier lateral transfers and reduced physical strain. Sometimes the terms “Universal changing table” and “Adult changing table” are used interchangeably, but for clarity we prefer to say “Universal” to indicate Ascent’s full range of capabilities.
Ascent requires a plug-in electrical connection and is ideal for facilities prioritizing maximum accessibility, caregiver safety, and flexibility for users of varying abilities.

Attend: A Fixed-Height Adult Changing Table
The Attend is an adult-sized changing table with a fixed-height, non-actuated design, featuring the exact same comfortable, vacuum-formed ABS tray as Ascent for a nearly identical changing experience. Similar in use to a baby changing station, it folds down from the wall to provide a stable surface for changing, but requires caregivers to manually lift the individual onto the tray.
By removing actuation, Attend delivers the same generous size, strength, and durability in a simplified design at a more accessible price point.
Choosing the Right Changing Table
Choosing between Ascent and Attend comes down to how a space needs to support caregivers, users, and project constraints. When ease of transfer, caregiver safety, and maximum accessibility are priorities, the Ascent universal changing table offers powered adjustability that supports a wider range of abilities. When a simplified, fixed-height solution is appropriate, the Attend adult changing table provides the same durable changing surface and dependable performance at a more accessible price point. It is certainly better than the common alternative (no changing table at all).
Both options reflect Sova’s commitment to dignified care and inclusive restroom design—giving facilities the flexibility to select the solution that best fits their needs, budget, and users.
