Weight Capacity and Durability Ratings 

One of the key factors of a good universal changing table is how durable it is. For such a key aspect of an accessible restroom, you need to make sure it has a heavy-duty design and can withstand frequent usage. Though the Ascent and the Pressalit units have the same weight capacity, that is only part of what makes a universal changing table built to last.  

Let’s review the Ascent’s durability ratings. The Ascent was designed with busy public spaces in mind, with a 500-pound weight capacity, an IK10 impact rating, and an IPX6 water resistance rating, making it a great option for any high-traffic facility. In comparison, both the Pressalit CT-4000 and CT-4100 do not publicly list any durability ratings. 

Dimensions 

The Ascent is offered in two sizes, giving you greater flexibility in choosing the right adult changing table to fit in your space. The larger unit, the 76” model, features expanded changing surface dimensions and is designed to work in larger restrooms, particularly new builds. Alternatively, the 70” model is meant to accommodate smaller restroom spaces with a more compact design, and has proven to be a favorite for retrofits. Both units comfortably accommodate fully grown adults and meet all IBC guidelines.  

For both Ascent units, the closed wall depth is 9.75 inches, giving it a smaller footprint than Pressalit’s CT-4000. Though it might seem minimal, every spare inch matters when you design a user-friendly, accessible space, especially when you are renovating an older building with less square footage.  

Installation Requirements 

The Ascent operates on a standard 120V, 20A GFCI-protected circuit and can plug directly into any power outlet. It also has battery backup functionality, which helps the table remain functional during a power outage – for hours at a time if needed. In comparison, Pressalit’s table requires a 230V mains connection, which could potentially cause additional electrical considerations depending on the building’s existing infrastructure and the location where you are planning to install the table, since it cannot be plugged into a standard 120V wall socket. 

When it comes to wall requirements, the Ascent has the flexibility to be mounted to either standard stud walls or concrete substrates, making it an adaptable option for both pre-existing buildings and new construction. The Pressalit unit requires an additional mounting kit, which must be purchased separately. There are different mounting kits available for different wall types, including brick wall, aerated concrete, and drywall. 

Obstruction Detection and Overall Safety 

Having thoughtful, well-implemented safety features is one of the most important aspects of an adult changing table. Users and facility owners alike need an adult changing table they can trust to function safely, with ideally very little maintenance. 

Sova’s Ascent features its own patented automatic retract-and-reverse system that is designed to protect users from injury while the table is in use. The system works to automatically stop, retract, and reverse direction if it encounters an obstacle while in motion.  

Compared to the Ascent built-in motion system, Pressalit’s reliance on a wired remote control for operation makes it less automatically responsive and user friendly. It’s also far more subject to vandalism or theft. 

Warranty 

An adult changing table’s warranty coverage is a major factor in making it a top choice for an accessible restroom.  

Sova’s 5-year warranty gives Ascent owners more peace of mind when it comes to the performance and overall lifespan of their adult changing table. Comparatively, Pressalit’s CT-4000 and CT-4100 offer just a 3-year warranty.  

Made in the USA 

Across the universal changing table category, Sova’s Ascent is the only unit assembled and warranty serviced in the United States primarily using American components. This gives Ascent owners the benefits of simplified warranty claims, straightforward replacement part procurement, and improved service options during the product’s life.  

Facility owners, architects, and distributors alike can rest assured that Ascent support will be easily available at all stages of the construction project, whereas manufacturer support from outside of the United States can be unpredictable and cumbersome.   

Compare Prices 

Depending on whether it is the manual or the electronic fold version, Pressalit’s adult changing table is currently priced between $9,114 and $11,943. The manual lift version of the table tends to be sold at the lower end of the range, while Pressalit’s electronic lift unit is available at the higher end. 

Comparatively, the Ascent is fully electronic, with a starting price point of $9,950 that remains competitive with both versions of Pressalit’s changing table. Even at that price, it still offers improved safety features, a longer warranty, battery backup system, flexible installation options, IPX6 water resistance rating, and IK10 impact rating.
